The Center for Evangelical Catholicism will be offering free, not-for-credit online courses by its team of instructors. These online versions are based upon those in St. Mary's (Greenville, SC) Catholic Church's Program of Catholic Studies. In addition to lectures, these online courses will feature readings, study guides, quizzes, and discussion groups. There is also an opportunity to receive certificates of completion for each course.

The Need for Adult Education

Who among us knows the faith as we should? At our baptism Christ called each of us by name, and it his will for us all to love him, know him intelligibly and be “prepared… to give reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15). All Christians are called to love God, and how can we love that which we do not know? Furthermore, Christians are called to bear constant witness to the good news found in Jesus Christ, and help all men to know the fullness of life Christ came to bring. But in order to properly explain or defend Catholic belief and practice, we ourselves first need to know what the Lord through His Church teaches, strengthening our own faith in the process. The call to arm ourselves with the truth is particularly urgent today, considering how constant and subversive are the attacks on the faith: leaving our apologetic effort to chance or good intentions is not enough. Commitment to a regular regimen of education in the truth is imperative to ensure our own life remains firmly grounded in the truth and that we are equipped to answer Christ’s commission and save others from the unhappiness of a life apart from Christ. And what better way than to do this than to resolve to take one of the classes offered by the Center for Evangelical Catholicism.

"To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamors are raised against truth, is the part of a man either devoid of character or who entertains doubt as to the truth of what he professes to believe." -Pope Leo  XIII
