The Center for Evangelical Catholicism invites you to an Old Time Tent Revival Concert with the The Hillbilly Thomistson a rare U.S. tour appearance. Join us on 3 August from 6:30–10:00 PM in the Clinkscael Center at St Mary's Catholic Church for an unforgettable evening of bluegrass, gospel joy, and revival spirit.
The Hillbilly Thomists are a bluegrass band of Dominican friars whose music flows straight out of a life of prayer, study, and preaching. What began as a casual creative outlet at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. quickly turned into something far bigger—when their first album, originally recorded for family and friends, unexpectedly climbed to #3 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart in 2017.
Since then, the friars have continued their primary vocation—preaching the Gospel around the world—while still writing and recording music that brings that same message to life in a distinctly American sound. Despite being scattered across different continents, they have released multiple albums, including Holy Ghost Power, which reached #5 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart in 2022.
Their music keeps one foot planted firmly in the Blue Ridge tradition of bluegrass and Americana, while ranging into delta blues and old Western country. Their songs are at once playful and profound—singing of redemption and original sin, pilgrimage and homecoming, grace and the life that awaits beyond “the River Jordan’s stormy banks.” As they put it, these are songs for people “made of a little bit of angel and a little bit of dust.”
This isn’t just a concert—it’s a revival. Expect tight harmonies, driving banjos, joyful laughter, and moments that cut straight to the heart.
